Years ago a railway speculator named William Zion partnered with Boone County landowner Elijah Cross and built a railway station on Cross’s land in Eagle Township. Thus the name “Zionsville.” For years the town had a quiet existence as a stop on passenger rail lines and eventually became a shopping destination with cute shops, restaurants and friendly folks.
